The NIIED (The National Institute for International Education Development) has published the application guidelines for the GKS Scholarship 2023 for the United States for Graduate Degrees. Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is also known as the 2023 Korean Government Scholarship Program, which seeks to grant 1300 scholarships to students from all over the world who want to pursue a Master’s or doctoral degree in Korea.

2. Total Number of Grantees in the USA:
18 candidates including 4 for Overseas Korean (Embassy Track)
Deadline: ** All certificates can be submitted without an Apostilled, regardless of the GKS-G guidelines. However, successful candidates will be obligated to obtain and present Apostilled Certificates after the interview results have been declared by the Embassy of the United States.

4. Scholarship Information & Benefits
Scholarship Period
Master’s Degree Program: 3 years
– 1 year of Korean language program + 2 years of degree program
Doctoral Degree Program: 4 years
– 1 year of Korean language program + 3 years of degree program
Research Program: 6 months or 1 year
Important Notes regarding Scholarship Period
– Research program scholars and scholars who obtained TOPIK level 5 or 6 will be exempt from a Korean language program
– Those who receive TOPIK level 5 or 6 within the first 6 months of the Korean language program will be exempt from the remaining 6-month language program and must start their degree program in the following semester (March 2024)
5. Eligibility for GKS Scholarship 2023 for the United States
List of Eligibility criteria for the 2023 Korean Government Scholarship Program for Graduate Degrees:
- Nationality: Applicants and their parents must not have Korean citizenship.
- Age: Applicants must be born after September 1, 1983, and under 40 years of age.
- Degree Requirements: Applicants must hold or expect to earn a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree before February 28, 2023.
- Grades: Applicants must maintain an overall grade point average(CGPA) equivalent to or higher than any ONE of the following: 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a 4.3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale, 3.23 on a 5.0 scale, or score percentile(80% or above).
- Health: Applicants must be in good mental and physical health to complete the program in Korea.
- Preferences:
- Applicants who have certified proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) may receive preference.
- Descendants of Korean War veterans will receive an additional 5% of the total marks during the selection reviews.
- Applicants who apply for majors in the field of Natural Science and Engineering may receive preference.
