GKS Scholarship at KDI – Global Network Program Scholarship

We are thrilled to introduce the Global Korea Scholarship GKS 2024 at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management called Global Network Program. This program is a unique initiative that aims to nurture tomorrow’s leaders in international cooperation through a comprehensive curriculum spanning International Cooperation, Korean Studies, and Data Science.

GKS – Global Network Program at KDI School

KDI School’s newly launched Global Network Program is sponsored by NIIED, which melds together 3 different areas into a single, 1.5-year master’s degree program

  • International Cooperation
  • Korean Studies
  • Data Science

While the three key disciplines are required, a student may choose the major and the specific area of study within the selected major.

Benefits of Global Network Program at KDI School

Candidates who receive an admission offer will automatically be eligible for the GKS Global Network scholarship, which includes the following benefits, subject to maintaining the necessary academic standards:

  • full tuition waiver,
  • return airfare support,
  • and monthly stipend (approx. 1 million KRW),
  • as well as the opportunity to be a part of the dynamic learning environment KDI School has to offer including numerous non-degree academic programs,
  • field trips, and networking opportunities.

Degree Programs for GKS at KDI School

Degree (Master’s): Public Policy, Development Policy, Public Management

KDI School Programs Global Network Program Scholarship

Students are required to apply for one major and one 1st concentration within the selected major. All students will take Data Science for Public Policy and Management as their 2nd concentration.

Study length:

  • 1.5-year residential, on-campus learning. Students are expected to complete both the coursework and the research project within the 1.5-year residential period
  • Graduation requirements: 39 credits including capstone project.

GKS 2024 Quota Countrywise for Graduate Programs

In 2024, the Korean Government invites up to 2,200 students globally, welcoming them to pursue their studies in South Korea through the GKS Scholarship Graduate Programs, which include Masters, Doctoral, and Research programs. Each participating country has designated quotas for both the Embassy Track and the University Track.

Benefits of GKS Scholarship 2024 Graduate

The 2024 GKS Scholarship stands out as a globally renowned award, offering more than just airfare and tuition coverage. Recipients also receive a generous stipend, free Korean language training, degree completion grant, thesis printing fee and comprehensive medical insurance.

Here’s a glimpse of the benefits of the GKS Scholarship 2024 Graduate Program.

1) Airfare:

  • Economy class flight ticket (actual expense)

2) Free Tuition

  • NIIED: up to 5 million KRW
  • University: amount that exceeds 5 million KRW, Admission fee

3) Korean Language Training Fee

  • 5.2 million KRW (four quarters)

4) Study Incentive

  • Korean language program: 14,100,000 KRW per year
  • Graduate Degree program: 15,700,000 KRW per year
  • Research Program: 19,800,000 KRW per year

Study Incentive :

All-inclusive subsidy of Settlement Allowance, Monthly Allowance, Research Allowance, Korean Proficiency Grants, TOPIK Application Fee, Degree Completion Grants, Medical Insurance, and Publication Printing Fee.

Korean Proficiency Grant:

GKS Scholars who will be initially exempted from the Korean language program with TOPIK level 5 or 6 will be given Korean Proficiency Grants automatically. (except for GKS scholars in the Global Network program, Research program, and Japanese applicants)

GKS Scholarship 2024 Benefits

Important Notes regarding Scholarship Benefits 

– If a GKS scholar withdraws from the scholarship within the first 3 months after the enrollment to their university, one MUST return the full scholarship amount that he or she has received after being selected as a GKS scholar (entry airfare, settlement allowance, monthly allowance, tuition, etc.) 

– Even if 3 months have passed since entering Korea, if the scholarship status changes, part of the already paid scholarship can be refunded or can be deducted from the next payment 

– Korean Language Training Fee and Korean Proficiency Grants are not provided to GKS scholars in Research program 

– Korean Language Training Fee is not provided to GKS scholars in Global Network program

And the wait is over. The most anticipated Global Korea Scholarship i.e GKS Scholarship 2024 Graduate has been announced and this is your chance to study in Korea on a fully funded scholarship.

In 2024, the Korean government has decided to invite 2,200 international students for the Global Korea Scholarship 2024 Graduate degree programs. Applicants can apply via Embassy Track or University Track, the details of which can be found below.

GKS Scholarship 2024 Information

Scholarship Period 

  • Master’s Degree Program: 3 years 
    – 1 year of Korean language program + 2 years of degree program 
  • Doctoral Degree Program: 4 years

  • Important Notes regarding Scholarship Period 

– Research and Global Network program scholars, all scholars who obtained TOPIK level 5 or 6 will be exempt from a Korean language program 

– Those who receive TOPIK level 5 or 6 within the first 6 months of the Korean language program will be exempt from the remaining 6-month language program and must start their degree program in the following semester (March 2025)

Additional Points for GKS Scholarship 2024 Graduate

  • Applicants who hold a TOPIK level 3 or above will be given additional points (10% of the total allocated points)
  • Direct descendants of Korean War veterans who participated in the Korean War as a foreign military will be given additional points (5% of the total allocated points)

Additional points for Korean/English Language Proficiency

Applicants will receive additional points based on language proficiency in Korean and English

  • Korean: Points will be given to applicants with valid TOPIK certificate based on their TOPIK level
  • English: Points will be given to applicants with valid English proficiency certificates based on their test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.)

Things to note when submitting application documents for GKS 2024 Graduate:

Application documents for the FIRST round of selection 

  • All documents must be submitted in English or Korean 
  • Each embassy/university may modify documentation requirements at their own discretion* 
  • One letter of Recommendation* must be prepared and submitted by applicant* Signed and sealed by your supervisor, dean or professional in the field of your desired study 
  • Applicants should check with the embassy/university for detailed information on application submission 

Application documents for the SECOND round of selection 

  • Successful candidates of the first round must meet the submission requirements for the second round 
  • If any of the required documents are not submitted or if any of the application forms are submitted without applicant?s signature, his or her application documents may be excluded from evaluation 
  • All application materials submitted to NIIED will NOT BE RETURNED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES 
  • If a university requires additional documents (e.g., portfolio), applicants must submit those materials directly to the university

GKS 2024 Eligibility Criteria for Graduate Program

Global Korea Scholarship for Graduate program has been announced. Please find below the detailed GKS 2024 Eligibility Criteria and make sure that you go through this article in detail before applying for the scholarship.

1 – Nationality

All applicants must hold citizenship of NIIED designated countries that are invited to take part in the GKS program of Education

2 – Level of Education

Important Note:

  • Applicants who are expected to graduate by July 31st, 2024 can also apply for the program with a certificate of expected graduation.
  • Such applicants must submit their official graduation certificate (or diploma) and final academic transcript to GKS Center, NIIED by July 31st, 2024. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of your acceptance

3 – Grades

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the entire curriculum from the previous degree program* must meet one of the conditions below; 
(For example, previous degree for a doctoral degree program applicant is a master?s degree program)

  • Score percentile should be 80% or above on a 100-point scale or be ranked in the top 20% of one’s class 
  • CGPA must be equal to or above 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5 or 3.23/5.0 

4 – Age

5 – Health

All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full duration of the program.

Note: Duplicate Submission 

  • Embassy track candidates (including reserve candidates) who passed the first round of selection cannot apply again through a university track 
  • Embassy track applicants must apply to only one program among General, Overseas Korean, International Reconstruction Talent program 
  • University track applicants must apply to only one program among General, R-GKS, International Reconstruction Talent, Global Network, R&D and Research program 
  • University track applicants must apply to only one department per university 

? Duplicate submissions will be disregarded in the evaluation. If found afterwards, scholarship will be cancelled even after the evaluation is completed.

GKS Scholarship – Hurry Up to Study in Korea for FREE

GKS Scholarship Applications

GKS Scholarship 2024 will be announced very soon. Usually, the applications are open in the last week of February every year, so you still have one month to prepare in advance. This year again, the scholarship will be opened for Masters degree, Phd degree and for research programs.

There will be two tracks to apply:

1- Embassy Track
2- University Track

Embassy Track = 650 Students
University Track = 650 Students

Eligibility Criteria for GKS 2024

Nationality:

  • Citizens of designated countries by NIIED are eligible.
  • Parents must hold citizenship outside Korea.

Degree Requirements:

  • Master’s Program: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Doctoral Program: Master’s degree or equivalent.
  • Applicants must have obtained the required degree (minimum level of education indicated above) by February 28, 2024.

Grades:

  • CGPA conditions for both masters and doctoral program applicants.
  • Score percentile should be 80% or above on a 100-point scale or be ranked in the top 20% of one’s class
  • CGPA must be equal to or above 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5 or 3.23/5.0
  • Applicants must submit an academic transcript with CGPA or ranking information
  • If a transcript does not provide CGPA in any one of the accepted GPA scales (4.0, 4.3, 4.5, 5.0 or 100 point scale), then the applicant must submit a transcript converted into one of the above GPA scales as a supplementary document

Age:

  • Applicants must be under 40 (born after September 1, 1984).
  • Academic professors in ODA recipients can apply up to 45 years (born after September 1, 1979).

Health:

  • Applicants must be in good mental and physical health throughout the program.

2. How can I apply for the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS)?

3. Do I need to have an English Proficiency Test to apply for the GKS?

An english language test is not mandatory for the GKS application. The university may have an english language proficiency test requirement, so the applicants have to check with the university’s requirements. However, applicants will receive additional points based on language proficiency in Korean and English.

4. Do I need a Korean Language Test to apply for the GKS?

A Korean Language Test Report is optional for GKS applications. However, applicants will receive additional points based on language proficiency in Korean and English.

5. Do I have to verify the documents?

All your documents, including academic transcripts, graduation certificates, proof of citizenship, and family relationship, must be verified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Nepal.

6. Do I have to verify the documents from the Korean Embassy in Nepal?

Only the successful candidates after Interview round shall be informed for further verification of documents from the Embassy. Attestation fees are applicable as per the regulations of the Embassy.

7. I have only a provisional graduation certificate. Can I still apply for the GKS?

Yes, you can apply with the provisional graduation certificate. However, the Applicants must submit their original graduation certificate by December 31, 2023.

8. My hometown is away from Kathmandu; can I submit my application online?

No, you have to submit hard copies of documents to the Embassy before the deadline.

9. How many documents do I have to submit?

All the applicants must submit one original document and three additional photocopies (four sets).

10. Do I need to submit a recommendation letter?

Yes, you will have to submit a letter of recommendation from one referee. However, all four sets of recommendation letters should be sealed and signed by the referee. Please refer to Application Form 4. Recommendation Letter, for the instructions related to the submission of a recommendation letter.

11. Can I reapply if I was not chosen in previous years?

Yes, you can reapply for the GKS even if you were rejected in the previous year.

12. Can I apply for University Track if I failed in the Embassy Track selection process?

Yes, you can apply for the university track if you can meet the deadline for the university track. However, if you have passed the first round of selection (including backup candidates) cannot apply again through a university track.

13. Can I apply even if I have graduated outside Nepal?

Yes, you can apply for the GKS program even if you have graduated from countries outside Nepal. Applicant must submit graduation certificate and academic transcript with consular confirmation issued by an embassy of the relevant country.

14. I graduated from Korea. Can I apply for GKS?

No, you are not eligible to apply for the GKS program. However, if you have previously studied in Korean universities as exchange or visiting students can apply.

Number of Scholarships Available for the Embassy Track (Nepal): 1 (One)

Programs: 1 year of Korean language study plus 4-6 years of degree study

Universities: Applicants can only apply to the universities and departments that are listed in the “Application Guidelines” with this notice Please refer to the “University Information” attached with the notice of NIIED.

Eligibility for GKS 2024 Nepali applicants

• Nepali Citizens

• Graduated from high school

• A score percentile of 80% or higher on a 100-point scale, or ranking in the top 20% of one’s class, is required.

• CGPA must be equal to or above 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, or 3.23/5.0

• Must be under the age of 25 (born after March 1, 1999)

• Must be in good health, both mentally and physically.

Deadline: The applicant must check the document requirements and submit hard copies of all the required documents to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal, no later than 12:00 on October 02, 2023.

Interview: Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the interview

GKS 2024 for Nepal Important Information:

• Prior to submission to the Embassy, it is imperative that all necessary certificates are authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Nepal.

• For documents written in languages other than English and Korean, MoFA authentication is required, and certified translations must accompany them.

• Only those who are successful in the interview process will receive notifications from the Embassy regarding Consular Confirmation of Required Documents.
