GKS Scholarship 2025 Quota

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) 2025 has two application tracks: Embassy Track and University Track, and applicants can apply through only one. Each track has its own quota and deadline, as outlined below.

  • General: 669 scholars from 146 countries or regions

  • General: 150 scholars from 55 countries or regions/
  • R-GKS: 465 scholars from 56 countries or regions

  • Research: 5 scholars from 157 countries or regions
    *Applications are available from 157 inviting countries and regions for the embassy and university tracks.
  • R&D: 300 scholars from all countries around the world.
  • Global Network: 80 scholars from all countries around the world

Scholarship Duration for GKS 2025

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) 2025 offers different study durations depending on the program:

  • Master’s Degree: 3 years (1 year of Korean language + 2 years of coursework)
  • Doctoral Degree: 4 years (1 year of Korean language + 3 years of coursework)
  • Research Program: 6 months or 1 year
  • Global Network Program: Master’s degree completed within 2 years

Important Notes:

  • The Korean language program is required for most scholars. However, exemptions apply to those in the Research Program, Global Network Program, and scholars who:
    • Achieve TOPIK Level 5 or 6
    • Are academic professors in a fully English-taught program
    • Complete the IRTS Korean Language Program with TOPIK/TOPIK IBT Level 3 or higher
  • Scholars who reach TOPIK Level 5 or 6 within the first 6 months of the language program will skip the remaining 6 months and begin their degree in March 2026 instead of September 2026.

GKS Scholarship 2025 Graduate Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) 2025 for graduate studies, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Nationality

  • Applicants must be citizens of a country designated by the NIIED that is invited to participate in the GKS program.

2. Education Level

  • Applicants must have completed the required degree by the application deadline or be expected to graduate by July 31, 2025.
  • If you’re expected to graduate by July 31, 2025, you can apply with a certificate of expected graduation and grades from completed semesters. However, you must submit your official graduation certificate and final transcript to the GKS Center, NIIED by July 31, 2025. Failing to do so will cancel your acceptance.

3. Academic Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the following Grade Point Average (GPA) conditions from their previous degree program:
    • 80% or higher on a 100-point scale or be ranked in the top 20% of your class.
    • CGPA requirements:
      • 2.64/4.0
      • 2.80/4.3
      • 2.91/4.5
      • 3.23/5.0

4. Age

  • Applicants must be under 40 years old (born after September 1, 1985).
  • Current academic professors from Official Development Assistance (ODA) recipient countries can apply if they are under 45 years old (born after September 1, 1980).

5. Health

  • All applicants must be in good physical and mental health to study in Korea for the entire duration of the scholarship.

Additional Points for GKS Scholarship 2024 Graduate

Additional points for Korean/English Language Proficiency

  • Korean: Points will be given to applicants with valid TOPIK certificate based on their TOPIK level

Additional Points for GKS Scholarship 2025:

  • Applicants with a TOPIK level 3 or higher will earn extra points, making up 10% of the total points available.
  • Direct descendants of Korean War veterans who served in the Korean War as foreign military personnel will receive an additional 5% of the total points.
  • Extra points will be awarded based on proficiency in Korean and English:

We are thrilled to introduce the Global Korea Scholarship GKS 2024 at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management called Global Network Program. This program is a unique initiative that aims to nurture tomorrow’s leaders in international cooperation through a comprehensive curriculum spanning International Cooperation, Korean Studies, and Data Science.

GKS Scholarship 2024 Sweden – Graduate


Global Korea Scholarship aims to enable international students to pursue academic degrees at higher educational institutions in Korea, fostering international education exchange and strengthening friendships between Korea and participating countries. The Embassy of Republic of Korea is pleased to announce the GKS Scholarship 2024 Sweden for the graduate programs – Masters, Doctoral and Research.

GKS Scholarship 2024 Sweden Details

  1. Total Number of Scholarships Available
  • Quotas for Sweden: 2 (1 reserved for overseas Korean)
  1. Duration of Scholarship
  • Doctoral Degree Program: 4 years (1 year of Korean language program + 3 years of regular degree program)
  • Master’s Degree Program: 3 years (1 year of Korean language program + 2 years of regular degree program)
  • Research Program: 6 months/1 year

  1. Submission of Applications
  • Deadline: March 6, 2024 (Wednesday)

    • Note: Write “2024 GKS Graduate Application” on the envelope.
  1. Important Requirements for Submission
  • Refer to the attached application guidelines for required documents.
  • “Documents to Complete” must be filled in English or Korean with the applicant’s original handwritten signature, without the need for apostille or consular confirmation.
  • All “Required Certificates” must be apostilled or consular confirmed. Swedish documents require certified translation in English or Korean.
  • Submit 4 sets of application documents (1 original and 3 photocopies) in separate envelopes, with the original set marked as “Original.”
  • Include a signed and sealed letter of recommendation from a supervisor, dean, or professional in the field of study.
  1. GKS 2024 Sweden Notice
  • Failure to submit all required documents will result in automatic disqualification in the first round of selection.
  • Submitted documents will not be returned under any circumstances.
  • If additional documents are required by a university, applicants must submit them directly to the university.

Global Korea Scholarship GKS 2024 Mongolia – Graduate

The Embassy of Korea in Mongolia is pleased to announce the Global Korea Scholarship i.e GKS Scholarship 2024 Mongolia for the Graduate programs – Masters, Doctoral and Research.

  1. Quota for GKS 2024 Mongolia

Number of selected people for Mongolia are

  • Embassy Track = 14 students in total 
  • University Track = 73 students ( 20 general students, 53 R-GKS students )

2.  Nationality

  • Applicant must be a Mongolian national   

? Application is not possible if the applicant or his or her parents have dual citizenship with Korean nationality.         

3.  Age

  • Persons under 40 years of age as of September 1 , 2024  ( born after September 1 , 1984 ) 
  • Among the countries eligible for invitation in 2024 , current professors from  ODA  recipient countries must be under the age of 45 as of September 1 , 2024 ( those born after September 1 , 1979 )                     

4.  Degree earned 

  • The reference date for degree acquisition is February 29 , 2024 ,  and only those who obtained their degree before the reference date can apply .           
  • Those who obtained a degree by graduating from a high school ( including foreign schools ),  university , or graduate school in Korea are not eligible to apply .            

 5.  Grades

  • The grade point average ( GPA ) for all grades in the final school meets at least one of the following conditions            
  • 2.64 out of 4.0
  • 2.80 out of 4.3
  • 2.91 out of 4.5
  • 3.23 out of 5.0

Percentage conversion score : 90% or higher  

  • Applicants who do not meet the above standards will be excluded from screening.         

6.  Document requirements : _  

  • Total documents to be submitted : 4 copies (  1 copy of Apostille confirmation document  +   3 simple copies )      
  • Certification documents from the list of submitted documents are required for Apostille verification.       

7.  Document submission period :

?  The second interview will be held around March 19th for only those who pass the  first document screening .

Important Update for the 2024 GKS-G Program Malaysia

Beginning with the 2024 GKS-G, applicants who anticipate graduating by July 31st, 2024, can now apply for the program with a certificate of expected graduation. However, these applicants must submit their official graduation certificate (or diploma) and final academic transcript to the GKS Center, NIIED by July 31st, 2024.

Failure to meet this requirement will lead to the cancellation of your acceptance into the program.

GKS Malaysia documents to be submitted:

  1. One(1) set of Documents to be completed.
  2. One(1) set of Certificates attested by the Consular, Wisma Putra. 
  3. One(1) set of Other documents (Optional).
  4. Four(4) sets of Recommendation Letters.

?ONLY the applicant who successfully passed the interview as EMBASSY TRACK CANDIDATES will be informed to submit one(1) set of notarized/consular-confirmed + three(3) sets of photocopies.
